Dear Residents of Stocking Pelham,

I am reaching out to gather your support for a crucial road safety initiative in our community. Following recent events and ongoing safety concerns, we are petitioning to change the speed limit on a specific stretch of Ginns Road.

Background: The section of Ginns Road in question, approximately 300 meters long, is currently designated with a 60 mph speed limit. This stretch lies between two areas where the speed limit is already reduced to 30 mph. Notably, this road segment includes a blind bend, is relatively narrow without clear road markings, and lacks street lighting and pedestrian paths, which greatly increase the risk of accidents.

Recent Incident: As of last night, Wednesday, 7th of August 2024, there was a significant accident on this stretch, which resulted in the road being closed for several hours. This incident underlines the urgent need for action to enhance road safety for both drivers and pedestrians alike.

Request for Support: We are requesting residents to sign this petition to advocate for reducing the speed limit on this section of Ginns Road to 30 mph. The current speed limit is not only unsuitable given the road’s layout and residential context, but it also poses a continued threat to our community's safety.

Objective: With your support, we will present this petition to Graham McAndrew, our contact at the county council, to request an official speed limit review and change for this road segment. Lowering the speed limit to 30 mph will create a safer, more consistent driving environment along Ginns Road and help prevent future accidents.

Next Steps: Once we gather sufficient support, we will formally submit our request and keep you updated on the progress.

Your support is vital to making our roads safer for everyone in Stocking Pelham. Together, we can make a significant difference in our community’s wellbeing.

Best regards,

Russell Martin
Councillor, Stocking Pelham Parish Council
